1. Data controller
The data controller for personal data collected through the LocalGuard browser extension is the parent or legal guardian who installs and configures the LocalGuard server on their own infrastructure. LocalGuard, as the software provider, has no access to browsing data processed by the extension.
- Name: LocalGuard
- Contact email: [email protected]
2. Data collected by the extension
The LocalGuard browser extension collects only the following browsing data from the child's device:
- Full URL: complete web address of the visited page.
- Page title: visible text in the browser tab at the time of the visit.
- Domain: domain name extracted from the URL (e.g., youtube.com).
- Browser: identification of the browser used (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox) for diagnostic purposes.
- Incognito mode: indication of whether browsing occurred in an incognito window.
3. Purpose of processing
The above data is collected for the following exclusive purposes:
- Check if the visited domain is included in the blocklist configured by the parent.
- Block access to disallowed websites by redirecting the user to a notice page.
- Report browsing history to the LocalGuard control panel so the parent can monitor activity.
4. Data retention
Browsing data is stored only on the LocalGuard server configured by the parent. The retention period depends on the server's own configuration and can be deleted at any time by the system administrator. The extension does not retain browsing data on the child's device.
5. Transfers to third parties
LocalGuard does not sell, rent, or transfer user data to third parties. The child's browsing data is transmitted exclusively to the parent's private LocalGuard server. Under no circumstances is this data sent to LocalGuard servers or any other external provider.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR (EU 2016/679), you can exercise the following rights at any time by contacting [email protected]:
- Access: obtain confirmation of whether data is being processed and a copy of it.
- Rectification: correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure: request deletion of data when it is no longer necessary.
- Restriction: request that processing be suspended under certain circumstances.
- Portability: receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
If you believe the processing violates applicable regulations, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).
7. Protection of minors
The LocalGuard extension is intended to be installed by adults (parents or guardians) on devices used by minors in their care. It must not be installed or used to monitor adults without their knowledge where local law prohibits it.
The adult responsible for the LocalGuard account is the data controller for the browsing data collected by the extension, pursuant to Art. 6.1.f GDPR (protection of the legitimate interests of the minor).
8. Security
The extension uses encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for all communications with the LocalGuard server. Authentication is performed using PASETO v4 tokens. No passwords or sensitive credentials are stored on the child's device; only a device identifier and a limited-use API key are saved locally.
